ABINGTON STREET - NORTHAMPTON


OUR APPROACH

West Northamptonshire Council announced plans to commence construction on Northampton’s main shopping street in early 2024, with preparatory work beginning in November. This followed extensive investigative work conducted in collaboration with our partner, Kier Transportation.

AT A GLANCE

Public Consultation

A thorough consultation led to confirmed improvements for Abington and Fish Streets, enhancing the area's visual appeal with new paving, seating, trees, and landscaping.

Project Partners

Kier Transportation and S&D were key collaborators in planning and scheduling the project.

Project Vision

To create inviting, sustainable public spaces to enhance social interaction and contribute to the town’s regeneration socially, environmentally, and economically.

Timeline

Construction to begin February 26th, 2024, lasting nine months.

Safety Measures

Comprehensive traffic and safety measures implemented, including barriers and pedestrian marshals.

HOW WE DELIVERED

Phase 1

Removal of old paving, drainage renewal, and installation of new ducting, lighting, and granite paving featuring bronze fish motifs.

Phase 2

Installation of drainage, ducting, granite paving, and street furniture.

Phases 3 & 4

Continuation of previous work with the addition of tree pits, seating, play areas, and picnic spaces.

Specified Requirements

New Yorkstone paving, granite kerbing, and resurfacing at the intersection of Abington Street and Market Square.
