THE BRIEF

A blank cream-colored rectangular sign on a black background.

Hawthorne Road was identified as part of a broader program to address Category 2 safety defects over a 10-month period. Initially, a Confirm Report was issued on November 3, 2023, detailing the need for planning and resurfacing 389m² of Hawthorne Road. However, during the site visit with Kier and our team, the client was dissatisfied with the scope and requested a reassessment by the Network Stewards. This led to a revised report, increasing the work area to 745m². Further lobbying by a local councilor prompted another site visit, resulting in an additional increase to 1381m², requiring a 100mm depth treatment. The final scope included AC20 DBM and SMA10 PMB 60psv, with the final quotation submitted on March 24, 2024.

THE DELIVERY

The project was approved at the end of May, and we proceeded with detailed planning and preparation. Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) were produced and approved, adhering to the client’s Health & Safety Policy. On June 6, 2024, the client's traffic management contractor implemented a full road closure and pedestrian barriers. A Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey was conducted to ensure the treatment depth met client specifications. Over two days, we completed the cold milling, applied hot PMB Bond Coat, and installed a 60mm layer of AC20 DBM 40/60p, followed by a 40mm layer of SMA10 PMB 60psv. All work was tested and validated according to industry standards.

The resurfacing of Hawthorne Road was completed successfully, with all required road markings installed. The road was reopened, and the quality of work was met with satisfaction from both the client and local residents, who expressed their appreciation for the professionalism and efficiency of our workforce.
